Choice Hotels International Awarded 2011 Maryland Chamber of Commerce/Baltimore Business Journal's Business Philanthropy Recognition
PR Newswire
SILVER SPRING, Md.

SILVER SPRING, Md., Nov. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Choice Hotels International, Inc. (NYSE: CHH) has been named the winner of the 2011 Maryland Chamber of Commerce/Baltimore Business Journal Business Philanthropy Award. This prestigious recognition was presented to Choice Hotels in honor of the company's high level of community commitment, highlighting its local grant contributions and generous partnership with the national Rebuilding Together nonprofit organization, specifically their local Montgomery County affiliate.

"As a company, we're passionate about giving back to our community and we're honored to be included in such a great group of similarly passionate local businesses and individuals," said Kelly Kane, vice president of corporate communications for Choice Hotels and executive director of the Choice Hotels International Foundation. "Choice has had a strong presence in Maryland for more than 70 years and the well-being of this area, in which our corporate employees live and work, is extremely important to us,"

Choice Hotels International and its "Room for Responsibility" program, which encompasses the organization's corporate social responsibility efforts, focuses on giving back to the communities where Choice associates live and work. The company makes its most significant impact across the nation and in Maryland through the "Room to Rebuild" program--a signature cause partnership with national non-profit Rebuilding Together. Rebuilding Together works to rehabilitate homes for the most vulnerable of the population including the low-income elderly, disable veterans, and families with children--all at no cost to homeowners. Since the partnership launched in 2009, Choice Hotels has made a market value contribution of over 2 million dollars towards the revitalization of homes and non-profit facilities across the country through financial contributions, in-kind donations, and thousands of volunteer hours from associates and franchisees.

"Every day that Choice Hotels works with Rebuilding Together is a day of home for a homeowner," said Susan Hawfield, executive director for Rebuilding Together Montgomery County. "We take care of sources of burden, like replacing a furnace that doesn't work or a roof that no longer keeps the house dry. We take care of electrical repairs that prevent disastrous fires. We are there to help the family live in a safe, warm, and dry home and Choice Hotels is there to help support us every step of the way."

Representatives from Choice Hotels accepted the honor at a special luncheon on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland in the presence of hundreds of attendees and other philanthropic award recipients.
